Birth Story:
I had been having severe abdomen cramping for about a week, so I finally couldn't take it
anymore and realized it was more that indigestion and called the OB on call, mine was on vacation, he suggested that we make
an appt w/a gastro specialist. On February 8th, I was 28 wks and 2 days I had an appt w/ a gastrologist at 1:00, when
they took my bp it was 190/160, they took it five more times and they kept getting the same thing, luckily my ob was across
the hall, although he was on vacation, his nurse told me to go irectly to L&D for observation. They immediately
starting hooking me up to fetal monitors and heart monitors and started an IV of Magnesium Sulfate so I wouldn't start seizing
due to the extremely high bp, at that time they did blood work and within about an hour they told me they were going to have
to transport me by ambulance to a hospital that had a high risk OB and dealt w/high risk deliveries, because I had HELLP
Syndrome and PIH & of course I later realized the OB on call was trying to calm my nerves, she told me there was a "possibility"
of them delivering when I arrived. The OB told me she had to call the high risk OB and she would let us know more when
she found out, 5 minutes later she came back and told us that the high risk OB wanted me air lifted by helicopter to
the hospital, that I didn't have time for an ambulance according to my blood work. On arrival Dh begged the OB to wait
at least 24 hrs to see if I got better, the OB turned to my dh, words I will remember forever "Son, if we wait 24 hours, we
are going to lose them both, delivering now is their only chance" They rolled me in for an emergency c-section and when my
very little Emma came out she uttered the sweetest, faintest sound ever. By the grace of God, she was perfect and breathing
on her own. Dh & I have said it time & time again, what started out as the worst day of our life turned into
the most blessed day ever.
