Birth Story:
7:30 Arrival at hospital.
The nurses monitored my contractions (a few mild ones) and the baby's heart rate.
8:30 Nurse checked me (1cm, soft, 10% effaced). She inserted the cervidil cream.
9:00 Contractions intensified and got closer together. 1-2 minutes apart and Mommy had to start breathing through them.
I also got shaky. I needed to urinate but couldn't get out of bed with the cervidil. I couldn't go on a bed pan.
10:31 Nurse checked me. Mommy said she will cry if there is no change since contractions are becoming more painful. 3
cm, 50%, bulging bag. She pulled the cervidil out and called Dr. and Daddy called Grandma and my sister. Mommy was able to
go to the bathroom and feels a little better.
10:55 Mommy said that she was 6 cm before the nurse checked as contractions were about 1-1 ½ minutes apart and strong
for about 20-40 seconds. She was right! 6cm. Contractions became very intense and Mommy started asking for pain meds. Nurse
said I was going too fast. Mommy lost her composure! I was having urges to push and they wanted me to hold off till Dr. got
there. "If I was in Kewanee, he'd be here!" (Remember I got bumped to this hospital because they scheduled another
induction at my hospital and wouldn't take us both. "Please just break my water!" "I want MEDS!" "I
can't do this."
10:58 7 cm. The floor nurse came in to help. I asked if I was in transition and she said yes. It was clear this was going
to happen very quickly! On every contraction I had the urge to push but they didn't want me to. Blow, blow, blow! Inevitably
I pushed a couple times each contraction. It was soooo hard not to!
11:03 Almost complete, just an anterior lip. I felt lots of vaginal burning. The whole area burned. I figured that I was
complete and they were just telling me I wasn't trying to wait for Dr.
11:05 Fully Dilated. Contractions were still about a minute apart and about 30 seconds long. Still had pain between the
contractions. They told me to rest between but mostly I just yelled for meds and for them to let me push. "Why can't
I push?!" They called up Dr. from the ER. We had seen him when we arrived in the ER. He was very friendly. No idea that
he'd be delivering this baby!!!
11:12 Finally they got the hook out. My water bag had been bulging since 3 cm and it was sticking out of me and had a
small hole in it. Dr. hooked it and it gushed and his head came out nearly all at once. I felt the water and saw his head
pop out. They suctioned him. He had the cord around his neck one time.
11:15 Barely one more push and Cameron was born! Dr. who delivered is a General Practitioner with a Pediatric emphasis
so he took the baby to the warmer and the nurse stayed with me.
11:25 My Dr. Jeffries came in! It took awhile for the placenta to come out. I had a shot of pitocin. One contraction and
it was out. I had a 2nd degree tear, not too bad for how fast it was. It hurt when he sewed me up. I kept feeling the needle!
