Birth Story:

I went in on 4/13 at 7:30am to get induced. I was still -3 and my cervix wasn't thinned at all. They put Cytotec (Misoprostol) on my cervix around 8:25. Around 12:30, I was at 1 cm. Then at 5:45, I was at 2 cm. My dr told me that she could break my water at that point, but that then I'd be having the baby in the middle of the night, which I really didn't want to do. She also said that she thought it would be better to wait until morning and asked if I'd be mad if she asked me to wait till morning. Of course I wasn't mad, so we agreed that she'd be in at 6:30am to break my water. At 6:30am, I was at 3cm and my contractions had spaced out to 3-5 minutes instead of every 2 minutes like they were the day before. So they started me on pitocin around 8am. The nurse came in around 9:30 and said that if I wanted an epidural to speak up now because the guy was on his way to give another patient one and if I waited too long, then he might not make it in time. She also said "I can play with the pitocin more if you get an epidural", so I agreed to get one. When he came in, he tried in 3 different spaces in my back, and then finally got it. He said that I may have the beginning of a slipped disc in my back and that my back fooled him. He kept hitting my bone which hurt. He left the room around 10:45. The nurse checked me at 12:45 and I was at 4 cm. Then 45 minutes later she checked me again since my contractions were peaking out at 100 over and over. So at 1:30 I was at 6 cm, then 45 minutes later I was telling her how I was feeling them on my right side and that I could tell something was going on down there. She checked me and I was ready to go. She paged my dr and in 10 minutes I was pushing. My left leg was completely numb, so my mom had to left the dead weight of my leg when the contractions came. My dr was cracking jokes between my contractions. The epidural made me very comfortable to carry on a regular conversation (unlike when I had my dd and didn't have anything for pain). I heard the dr say "she popped", and then they told me to continue to push, and then a few pushes later she said "whoa whoa, stop for a minute". They told me after the fact that "popped" meant that I ripped (1st degree laceration) and when she told me to hold on, that was because the cord was wrapped 2 times around Hayley's neck and then around her body. I had Hayley Laurryn at 2:49pm. She said it was a good thing that Hayley wasn't extremely big or there would've been more pull on the cord being around her neck. Hayley came out and cried 2 times and then stopped when they put her on me. I asked them what was wrong with her, and they said nothing. She was looking all around the room checking everything out. She got a 9.9 apgar. She was holding her head up very well for being a newborn also. She weighed 6 lbs 2 oz and was 17 3/4 inches long
