Birth Story:
well i had my 40wk da on thursday 26th where he said i
was 3 cm and showed mush improvement from last week
then he stripped my membanes. was feeling crampy all
day and lots of bloody show then at around 10:15pm i
had my first proper contraction on my way up to bed. i
lay in bed and they very rapidly went from 15 mins
apaart to around 8 mins and very painfull and i just
couldnt lie there anymore so i got up and tried to
rest it out downstairs... by around 1 am i was really
hurting i had taken paracetamol and i got dh to put
tens on (i think its great!) by 2am i had phoned
labour ward cos the pain was just too bad and they
admitted me. i was STILL only 3-4cm but the
contractions were now around every 3-4 mins. after
pethidine then gas and air i decided to get an
epidural at around 10am when they discoverered i was
still only 4cm and i was in back labour! had
epidural... THAT WAS WONDERFULL!!! it lasted a few
hours then became patchy and i had to have several
high dose top ups which only succeeded in numbing my
legs completely! by 5pm i was SCREAMING for a
casearean cos of the pain... they started to get a bit
worried cos i was still only 5cm and babies heartrate
was decelerating and i had a temp so by 6pm the doc
decided enough was enough and that she'd check my
dilation "just in case" before going for a c section.
well in the space of 15 mins i had progressed from 5cm
to 10cm! so we decided to push! i pushed for about 4
mins and head was crowning but then babies hr
decelerated to about 50-60 and stayed that way so we
quickly opted for ventouse and got baby out! from
start to finish the pushing stage lasted about 9
mins!!!
when baby came out he was floppy so they rushed him
over to their table and rescuscitated him for about 5
mins.... this was the worse time of my life! they
pulled the "crash bell" and started shouting over the
tannoy for "peads resus team" at which point about 10
people all came running in trying to get my baby to
breath and his heart to beat again (im crying as i
write this...) they eventually brought him round and
told me they had to take him straight to nicu as his
apgar was only 2.5 (dunno what that means) so i didnt
see him. dh went to see him tho and within 15 mins he
was much better. he had a temp and so had antibiotics
cos i have group b strep but the bloods show he is in
the clear. i got to see him after about 4 hrs when i
was wheeled around but wasnt allowed to hold him until
about 4am the following morning.
