Birth Story:
Well, my baby arrived 9 days early. I woke up Monday morning around 2:30 am and lost my mucous plug. I thought it would be
like when I had my first son and I'd start having contractions almost immediately. But it didn't happen like that. So I got
up and went to work and thought I would just play it by ear since it could be hours or days before I could go into labor.
While at work I just had a feeling that it would be that day. No regular contractions, just a feeling. After lunch, I started
having regular contractions so I started tying up last minute things. I spoke with my DH and told him today would be the day
and he agreed to meet me at home. I left work at 4:00 and ran home to throw in a few last minute things in my bag. We dropped
my two sons off at my mom's house and headed to the hospital.
We checked in and they needed to check me out because the doctor's office hadn't called in that I was headed that way.
Anyway, I had dialated to a 4. The contractions started getting stronger and more painful. I asked for an epidural but had
to wait 3 hours to get one because they were so busy. As soon as I got the epi, the doctor came in and broke my water. Well,
things progressed very rapidly after that. At about 10:30 p.m. I started pushing, but was having trouble. Finally around 11:15
the doctor said he was concerned because with each push the baby's heartrate would drop. So he told me that he wanted to use
the forceps to help and if that didn't work then he would have to do a c-section. He said he would use the forceps only once,
but I would have to do all the work. He would only use the forceps to help guide the baby out because he would pop back in
with each push. So with one more push the baby was born. The umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck which was causing
the drop in heartrate with each push. They got him out and cleaned up and he was fine. No marks from the forceps or any issues.
Joshua Ray was born on March 26, 2007 at 11:37 pm. He weighs 8 lbs 2.5 oz and is 20 in long. He has a head full of black
hair and his hands and feet are big.
I'm dealing with lots of swelling, especially in my feet. They are more swollen now then they were when I was pregnant.
I'm also very sore from the episiotomy and where the epidural was injected. I have also started having some baby blues and
have been crying for no reason. Nothing to be alarmed about, just crying. Same thing happened with my DS.
We are having trouble with breastfeeding and dealing with mixed up nights and days. I was awake this morning from 2:30
to 6:30. Thankfully DH took off this week and has been a big help.
